Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood Womenswear Collection
Educated at the Harrow School of Art, design artisan Dame Vivienne Westwood represents all that is shocking and courageous in British fashion. Steeped in 1970’s punk heritage, Westwood creates instantly recognisable clothing based around unique cutting techniques that have led to the brand having a cult following.
Originally from Glossop in Derbyshire, Vivienne Westwood is one of the most prolific and inspirational fashion designers of modern time, with her design philosophy denoting the spirit of anti-fashion and anti-establishment. Imprinted with the iconic orb logo, Westwood’s designs have included the notorious pirate, savage and cave girl collections.
The Victoria and Albert museum celebrated Westwood’s heritage in 2004-5 with a major retrospective of her work from the 1970’s to the present day, including pieces from Westwood’s personal clothing collection. Westwood’s success was depicted in the 2008 film adaptation of Sex and the City, where fashion idol Carrie Bradshaw wore the now iconic Westwood gown to her ill-fated wedding. Summarised by quirky cut, dramatic draping and unique accessories; Vivienne Westwood is a true fashion legend.
