Marithé et François Girbaud
Marithé et François Girbaud
The revolutionary 60’s saw the encounter of two completely different personalities Francois and Marithe Girbaud with the same dream: America. Both exuded a passion for style and a desire to change and improve the fashion world. They soon established an exchange of ideas and a true complicity of vision, and in 1964 they imported garments for Western House, the first boutique of its kind in Paris.
The pair brought a new approach to fashion starting with the work garment and clothing for people who lived for music and American cinema. The jean is their core product to which they have developed an emphasis on easy to wear visionary cuts. They have an interest in eco-friendly manufacturing procedures and have found a way to wash denim with laser instead of bleach, in order to avoid water poisoning. Year after year the jean is redesigned and rethought, inventing new industrial processes and technical designs.
